A VISIONARY LEADER
Abdulhamid Umar Mohd, born on November 11, 1992, in Brigade Gama B, Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, is a prominent youth politician and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Zonal Youth Leader for the Northwest. Raised in a neighborhood notorious for youth restiveness, Abdulhamid’s early life was shaped by the challenges faced by his community, including drug addiction, gang violence, and extreme poverty. Despite these challenges, his family, led by his father Mallam Umar Mohammed, ensured that he and his siblings received both a solid religious and Western education.
Abdulhamid’s firsthand experiences of the struggles in his community fueled his passion for active citizen engagement. He realized that politics offered the most effective platform through which he could address the numerous issues affecting his immediate community and, by extension, his country.
Abdulhamid holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. He is also a Graduate Member of the Institute of Information Management (GMIIM). As a youth with a deep commitment to youth development, he began his political career at a young age.
In addition to his campaign roles, Abdulhamid served as the office secretary to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. He later contested and was elected as the APC Zonal Youth Leader for the Northwest in the 2023 election. Subsequently, he was appointed Deputy Director Youth Mobilization Northwest in 2023 campaign council, for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. He also serves as a Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency Barau I. Jibrin.
Abdulhamid dedication to youth development extends beyond Nigeria. His commitment earned him the position of Special Assistant to the Vice President of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) on Youth in Politics, Africa Regional Office. He is also a Fellow Member of the Youth African Leaders Initiative Network (YALI Network) and a Co-member of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
In Kano State, Abdulhamid served as a committee member for the APC’s indirect primaries for the House of Assembly in 2019. His belief in regional cooperation, leading to national and global progress, is reflected in his membership in the Arewa Youth Association and the Northern Youth Assembly.
Abdulhamid political ambition has provided him with numerous opportunities to participate in international conferences and seminars, including the Melaka International Youth Dialogue in Malaysia, the China-Africa Political Party Youth Leaders Forum in Hunan, China, and the International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Accra, Ghana, among others.
Earlier in his career, Abdulhamid was the President of the Students Union Government (SUG) at ESGIS University. He also served as Auditor General of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the Republic of Benin chapter and Vice President of the Kano State Students Association (KASSA), Unity Ringim Chapter.
Abdulhamid dedication to grassroots mobilization, transparency, and accountability has made him a respected figure in both local and national politics. His commitment to youth development and good governance continues to drive his work as a leader and advocate for the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
